Vitamin D helps you Relax, Renew and Rejuvinate

Here in Washington State we receive the least sunshine in the month of February of any other state. This causes the February doldrums. Our bodies need sunshine to produce Vitamin D which is essential for mental, physical and emotional health. Luckily at The U Wellness we have the Blu Room to help you regain your well being that has been compromised by our grey, damp and dismal weather.

The Human Body needs the action of sunshine or more precisely the ultra violet Blue or UVB  spectrum of sunlight directly on the skin in order to manufacture Vitamin D.

Vitamin D is crucial to the maintenance and healthy functioning of the entire body effecting the DNA, our mineral balance, our immune system, our circulatory system and heart function, our nervous system, brain and our metabolism.

People who live in northern latitudes, or areas of high pollution, work at night and stay home during the day, or are home bound or use high SPF sunscreen all the time are the people who are most likely to suffer from the effects of Vitamin D Deficiency. People who are in any of the above categories and have dark skin are even more at risk.
Thus it is not surprising that most Washingtonians are suffering from vitamin D deficiency.

The Blu Room provides all the UVB light the body requires for the production of vitamin D. Even with the minimal exposure of skin, limited to hands and face or feet. A scientific study done by the Department of Dermatology, Copenhagen University Hospital determined that UVB bulbs provide 8 times the vitamin D that the equivalent sun exposure to the equivalent area of skin does. https://vitamindwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page_id=3071

Symptoms Of Vitamin D Deficiency

The Symptoms of Vitamin D Deficiency may include:

Lowered immune system function which can lead to getting sick or getting infected more often and taking longer to recover.

Feeling tired with a general feeling of a lack of vitality which leads to feelings of depression.

Experiencing general aches, cramps and twitches. One of vitamin D’s crucial role in our bodies is helping our muscles and bones absorb calcium, which is essential to maintain strength and flexibility. In addition vitamin D has been shown to be essential for the health of our central nervous system. Clinical studies suggest that a deficiency in Vitamin D may lead to an increased risk of schizophrenia and multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases such as dementia and Alzheimers.

Muscle weakness can lead to an increase in falls in the elderly. In a small study of participants between the age of 65 and 102 half were given supplemental vitamin D where the other half were given a placebo. At the end of the 5 month study the group that had received supplementation had increased their vitamin D levels from insufficient to optimal. Compared to the group that received the placebo, those taking Vitamin D had about half as many falls at home over the same time frame.

Experiencing increased pain. In a small study women with fibromyalgia were given vitamin D supplementation or a placebo for 20 weeks and were monitored for 24 weeks after that. Those who received the vitamin D supplementation noted a decrease in pain.

Increased weight gain. In a study whose findings were reported in the Journal of Women’s Health, 4,600 women aged 65 or older were monitored for vitamin D levels and weight over a five year period. The women with the highest vitamin D levels also started with the least weight. Over the course of the study the women with the insufficient vitamin D gained 2 more pounds than those with adequate levels.

Why wait until you begin to experience any of the above. Come visit us and top up your vitamin D.
